According to a recent piece published in The Washington Post, a Muslim Marine recruit claims he was called a terrorist as well as ordered multiple times into an industrial clothes by a drill instructor who then turned the machine on. His testimony is one of many according to to investigative documents that have continued to provide new details about the alleged abuse of military recruits at the Marine Corps training center at Parris Island, S.C.

“You’re going to kill us all the first chance you get aren’t you, terrorist?” said the drill instructors according to the documents that have yet to be released publicly but were reviewed by The Washington Post. “What are your plans? Aren’t you a terrorist?”

This isn’t the first time this year the issue of hazing and abuse has come up in connection with Parris Island. On March 18 a 20-year-old recruit with Pakistani roots, Raheel Siddiqui, died after jumping from a stairwell landing that was 40 feet high in an effort to run away from the same drill instructor accused of using the dryer to burn recruits. Just before he jumped Siddiqui had been slapped by the instructor.

Siddiqui’s death drew public scrutiny — shining light on the culture of jarring punishments at Parris Island that, according to the documents, Marine officials were already examining at the time.
